Welcome to the Genealogical Society of Allegany County, Maryland, website. We are a non-profit organization of genealogists who research our ancestry with a goal of preserving our family heritage for future generations.

Our Research Library is located in the Appalachian Collection of the Library at Allegany College of Maryland, 12401 Willowbrook Road, Cumberland, MD.

The Research Library contains many family histories, as well as a great deal of historical and genealogical material, not only for Allegany County, MD but for those counties and states that border Allegany County.

The library is open year around but is closed on legal holidays and in inclement weather (winter), and when ACM is closed for various college breaks. If traveling a distance, it is wise to call ahead.
